Workplace Consulting
Andy Silver has a Master's degree in Conflict Resolution from Columbia College, and 15 years experience mediating complex workplace disputes for industry and non-profit firms. Some types of facilitation in the workplace include - Integrated Conflict Management Systems,
- ADR (Alternative Dispute Resolution) Best Practices,
- Facilitated Workplace Dialogue.
The following letter illustrates the services Andy provides in the workplace: "When our Employee Relations department investigated an internal
grievance among high-performing supervisors and managers, and found it to be unsubstantiated, we located an outside workplace dispute mediator.
Andy Silver, with a Master's degree in Conflict Resolution and a mediator for numerous industries since 1986, proposed a three day-long conflict resolution process that met with Human Resources, Employee Relations, and senior management's goals for a thorough resolution to this disturbing grievance.
When Andy convened this group of supervisors and managers who were participating at this off-site retreat, he had asked their senior manager to stop by briefly and announce: these mediation sessions would be confidential; no job reprisals would occur as a result of what was said during the mediations; and that these participants were valued by the business and to please engage fully in the mediation process and completely resolve these disputes during this retreat.
There were two final results for these mediation sessions. This team of supervisors and managers agreed upon a list of behaviors to communicate respectfully with each other and others in their department. Secondly, the employee who filed the grievance felt that the issues had been sufficiently resolved.
A month after the mediation sessions concluded, we continue to appreciate Andy Silver's facilitation skills, plan to contact him if another dispute arises that is appropriate for mediation, and recommend his services to other firms who realize that mediation can save the expense of protracted litigation."
Signed,
Employee Relations Department Administrator
